Does it Matter

March 10, 2024

Matthew 25:21 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’”
Colossians 3:23-24 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

Think

In the middle of the ordinary, the routine, and the seemingly mundane aspects of life, God is present. Just as the woman at the well encountered Jesus while filling her jar with water, just as Moses had a life-altering encounter with God while watching his father-in-law’s sheep in the desert, and just as Mary and Martha experienced the presence of Jesus as they opened their home and served others, God meets us in the everyday moments.

It’s easy to overlook these encounters with the divine during our daily routines. When we’re alone, when no one is watching or applauding us, we may wonder, “What is the point?” The mundane can feel monotonous, slow, and lacking significance. But God chooses to walk with us in the ordinary, just as he did with Enoch and Noah. (Genesis 5 and 6)
Nothing is considered mundane to God when done to his glory. Whether we’re washing the car, reading a book to our children, or attending class, every part of our day can be an act of worship when done with an awareness of God’s presence. It’s about recognizing that God is with us in the simple moments and finding joy and purpose in serving him in every aspect of our lives.

“Keep reminding God in our times of private prayer that we mean every act for his glory; then supplement those times by a thousand thought prayers as we go about living. Let us practice the fine art of making every work a priestly ministration. Let us believe that God is in our simple deeds and learn to find him there.” – A.W. Tozer

Pray

Jesus, you are present in my ordinary, everyday life. Thank you for reminding me that you are with me, guiding me, sustaining me, and walking alongside me in every moment. I want to develop a deeper awareness of your presence; help me to see you in the simple moments and recognize your handiwork in the routines of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
