Irresistible

May 20, 2024

2 Corinthians 2:15 For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.”
Colossians 3:2 “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”
Matthew 5:13-14 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.”

Think

Imagine Christians becoming an irresistible force of change, especially among those who don't share their faith—friends, colleagues, neighbors, and family. The Apostle Paul urged believers to set their minds on "things above," not as a call to disconnect from the present world, but to engage more deeply with it. When our focus shifts to God’s values, to what truly concerns the divine, we find ourselves not checked out but profoundly checked in. This mindset allows us to view the world through the lens of God's love, through his grace—a world to which he sent his son to die on a cross.

As followers of Christ, when we are transformed by his grace, we become more than mere spectators; we become his ambassadors. Our mission? To spread his Word like a beneficial contagion, influencing culture. We are called to shape society constructively, reflecting the good news of the gospel through our actions and interactions.

The plan to heal and renew the world isn't limited to the extraordinary people alone; it crucially involves ordinary individuals—men, women, and children—energized by realizing their role in the narrative of an extraordinary Savior. From a diverse group that once included fishermen, tax collectors, widows, children, prostitutes and those marginalized by society, Jesus declared them the salt of the earth and the light of the world. These words from Matthew 5 remind us that anyone, regardless of past or pedigree, can illuminate the darkness.

By becoming living testimonies of God's love and mercy, Christians are called to rescue, restore, and enrich the world. It’s not merely about grand gestures but also the everyday acts of kindness and justice that can lead others to see and glorify our Father in heaven. In doing so, we don't just proclaim his words; we live them out loud, inviting everyone around us to witness the transformative power of Jesus.

Apply

Every day, begin with spiritual grounding. Read your Bible and ask Jesus to guide your thoughts and actions. Ask him how you can best represent him through your actions, thoughts and words, so that you are in alignment with his will.

Pray

Lord, help me to set my mind on things above, aligning my thoughts, actions, and words with your divine purposes. Let my life reflect your light, drawing others toward you. Help me to use every opportunity to reflect you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
