Just Breathe

February 18, 2023

Read:

Psalm 46:1-3, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, the mountains quake with their surging."

Think:

In the last few years, emphasis has been placed on breathing. During COVID, everyone had to focus on breathing through their masks. Many were worried about getting sick and developing breathing issues.

Concerns about global pandemics, natural disasters, and tragedies in the news can overwhelm our minds and cause anxiety to engulf our thoughts. It is so easy to let fear flood our souls. Our minds can get clogged with the "What-ifs" and "Whys" when He wants to whisper the promises found in Psalm 46: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help…” When we pause to focus on the truth that God is our refuge and strength, our hearts can be at peace, even when life feels scary.

If fear and anxiety have slipped into your heart, pause and remember that God is your protector; His presence is with you. He is in the highest position of authority over this broken world, and He can give you the peace to breathe.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote, “The one who lives the most life is the one who breathes the most air."

Act:

Take time today to be still. Inhale and exhale. Let your breathing remind you of the One who gave you breath, the One who controls all things.

Pray:

Thank You, Jesus. I give all my worries to You. You alone are worthy. You are my defender. You are my safe place, and I run to You. Amen.
