The Heart of the Issue

July 1, 2020

Read

Psalm 139:23-24, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Think

The Bible refers to David as “a man after God’s own heart.” What a compliment! Does this mean he kept his head down and led a quiet and holy life? Absolutely not! David was human, just like all of us. He wasn’t perfect; he messed up from time to time. So, how did he attain this lofty description? It was because of one fact: David had a heartfelt desire for intimacy with God.To love God is to trust God. To seek Him is to know Him. To have intimacy with Him is to search for truth, no matter how uncomfortable it may be. Because, how we relate to everything and everyone depends on the condition of our hearts. And, that’s precisely what we hope to discover as we break down today’s reading over the next few days and ask God to search us, test us, show us our offensive ways, and lead us in the way everlasting! So, open your heart to God. Ask Him to do what only He can do. Remain humble before Him. And look forward to the amazing results He has in store!

Act

Today, keep this thought in mind: I may not be perfect, but I am being perfected through Christ!

Pray

Dear God, I open my heart to You and desire a new level of intimacy. Help me to remain focused on the path You’ve set before me, because I know You always have my best interest in mind. Thank You for Your unwavering love and acceptance as I continue to become more like Christ. Amen.
