James 2:17 "In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."
Think
We all want to grow in our faith, don’t we? But let’s be real—it’s a lot easier to talk about than to do. It’s like saying, “I want to get in shape,” while sitting on the couch with a bag of chips. Faith doesn’t grow just because we want it to; it grows when we act on it.
In Hebrew, the word maaseh means “to act”—to put into motion what you believe. It’s not just about big spiritual moments; it’s about how you live every single day. It’s choosing patience when your kids are testing you, showing kindness to a neighbor, or making time for prayer even when your schedule feels packed. Faith is meant to spill over into all areas of life, not just stay confined to Sunday mornings.
But acting on faith can be intimidating. Sometimes, we want to see the whole picture before we move. C.S. Lewis put it this way: “You do not need to see the whole staircase, just the next step.” Faith isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about trusting God enough to take the step he’s put in front of you, no matter how small it feels.
And here’s the truth: faith grows in the little, everyday choices. It’s not about grand gestures; it’s about consistent steps of obedience. Maybe God is calling you to forgive someone, serve in a ministry, or simply spend time with him daily. Whatever it is, faith grows when we stop overthinking and start obeying.
So, what’s one step of faith you can take today? Maybe it’s reaching out to encourage someone, spending five minutes in prayer, or trusting God with a situation that feels out of your control. Faith doesn’t grow by standing still—it grows when you live it out, one step at a time. What will your step be?
Apply
Share your faith. Have a meaningful conversation with someone about what faith means to you or invite them to church or a small group.
Pray
Lord, thank you for the opportunity to live out my faith each day. Help me to trust you with the steps you’ve placed before me and give me the courage to act in obedience. May my life reflect you and bring glory to you in all I do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
