God Is Eternal

Time is something we’re all familiar with—days turn into years, and our lives are marked by moments that come and go. But God exists outside of time. He is eternal, having no beginning and no end. God’s eternality means he is not bound by the constraints of time as we are. Psalm 90:2 captures this truth beautifully: "Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God." God’s existence stretches infinitely in both directions—he is the Alpha and the Omega (Revelation 22:13).

Imagine standing on the shore of an endless ocean. The waves roll in, one after another, seemingly without end. As far as your eyes can see, the water stretches to the horizon. This is just a faint picture of God's eternity. He is the eternal ocean, with no beginning or end, and our lives are like a single wave, momentary and fleeting. Yet, in his timelessness, God sees every moment of our lives perfectly. He knows our past, present, and future all at once, holding everything in his sovereign hands.

A.W. Tozer once said, “God dwells in eternity, but time dwells in God.” This quote reminds us that while the ticking clock limits us, God transcends those limits. He is present simultaneously in every moment of history and every detail of our lives. This truth brings immense comfort—God’s eternal nature means that he is always with us, fully aware of our needs and circumstances, and nothing catches him by surprise. His plans unfold perfectly in his time, not ours.

As we live our lives, often feeling pressured by the passing of time, let’s remember that God is eternal and timeless. He invites us to trust in his perfect timing and to rest in the knowledge that his purposes extend beyond the boundaries of our days and years. When we feel rushed or anxious, we can lean on the eternal God, finding peace in the assurance that he is always with us, guiding us with an eternal perspective that sees far beyond what we can imagine.

This week, when you feel overwhelmed by deadlines, stress, or the passing of time, pause and remind yourself that God is eternal and not limited by time like we are. Take a moment each day to reflect on a specific situation where you must trust God's timing.

Pray

Lord, I often feel rushed and pressured by the demands of life, but today I choose to rest in your eternal nature. You are not bound by time; you see the complete picture of my life from beginning to end. Help me to trust in your perfect timing and to release my anxieties about the future into your capable hands. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
