Matthew 6:19-21 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Think

What are you chasing? Is it success, security, or the approval of others? Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:19-21 hit close to home: the treasures we pursue on earth—money, possessions, recognition—are fleeting. Moths destroy, rust decays, and thieves steal. Yet, how often do we pour our time and energy into things that, deep down, we know won’t last?

Randy Alcorn put it this way: “You can’t take it with you—but you can send it on ahead.” That’s a hard truth, isn’t it? Everything we’ve worked so hard to accumulate will one day fade. But what if our efforts could make an eternal impact? Treasures in heaven aren’t about what we own—they’re about lives changed through love, generosity, and faithfulness.

Take a moment to think about what you value most. Where do you spend your time, your energy, your resources? Are they tied to temporary things, or are they invested in something lasting? The church is one of the greatest opportunities to store up heavenly treasure. Every act of generosity, every hour serving, every person you encourage is a way to plant seeds of eternal significance.

Jesus said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” That’s personal. Your treasure shapes your heart. If you value things that pass away, your heart will chase them endlessly. But when you invest in God’s work, your heart begins to align with his purposes.

What step can you take today to shift your treasure toward what truly matters? Maybe it’s serving in a ministry, giving generously, or encouraging someone in your church family. When you invest in God’s kingdom, you’re not just leaving an impact—you’re discovering the deep joy and purpose that come from living for what lasts forever.

Pray

Heavenly Father, thank you for reminding me that true treasure is found in your eternal purposes. Help me to shift my heart and focus away from what is temporary and to invest in what lasts forever. Show me how I can use what you’ve given me to make an eternal impact for your kingdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
