Truth About Love

Read

1 Corinthians 13:6 “Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.”

Think

Kids have an unmatched ability to tell it like it is—often at the worst possible moment. Take my friend’s four-year-old, who loudly announced in a packed grocery store, “Mommy says Daddy hides cookies in the garage!” The adults froze, unsure whether to laugh or pretend they didn’t hear. Kids don’t filter, they don’t sugarcoat—they just lay the truth out for all to see. While it can be hilarious (and occasionally mortifying), their honesty reveals something we sometimes forget: truth matters.

In our relationships, the temptation to avoid truth is all too real. We laugh along with gossip, avoid difficult conversations, or turn a blind eye to behaviors that dishonor God because it feels more convenient in the moment. But little compromises, left unchecked, slowly erode the foundations of trust and love.

True love, however, doesn’t ignore wrongdoing or celebrate someone’s failures. Instead, it steps into the mess—not to condemn, but to redeem. Love finds joy in what is good, pure, and restorative. It means having the courage to speak truth with kindness, even when it’s uncomfortable, because truth has the power to heal and transform.

Here’s the challenge: Are there moments in your life when you’ve chosen silence over truth to avoid conflict? Or excused sin because it felt easier than addressing it? Love calls us to something greater—to live authentically, to speak truth with grace, and to seek what honors God and builds others up.

Take time today to think. Where can you bring truth into your life or relationships? Maybe it’s a hard conversation, cutting out gossip, or affirming someone’s growth. Truth isn’t always easy, but it transforms. Love, at its core, rejoices in truth—and that kind of love has the power to change everything.

Examine your inputs. Take inventory of what you’re watching, reading, or listening to. Are you consuming content that celebrates dishonesty, conflict, or sin? Replace negative input this week with something that inspires truth and goodness, like a podcast, sermon, or worship music.

Pray

Lord, help me to love with authenticity, rejoicing in what is good and true. Give me the courage to speak truth with kindness and humility, and to avoid celebrating anything that dishonors you. May my actions reflect you and bring your grace to those around me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
