What Do You Want Me to Do for You?

Read

Mark 10:51-52 "‘What do you want me to do for you?’ Jesus asked him. The blind man said, ‘Rabbi, I want to see.’ ‘Go,’ said Jesus, ‘your faith has healed you.’ Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road."

Think

The road from Jericho was alive with noise—dust swirling, voices shouting, the crush of bodies moving past. Two beggars sat by the roadside, unseen and ignored. Darkness was all they had ever known, but today, something was different. A name cut through the chaos: Jesus.

Bartimaeus' heart pounded. He had heard the stories—of lepers cleansed, demons cast out, storms stilled with a word. This was his moment. If Jesus could heal them, he could heal him.

"Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on us!" The crowd turned. "Be quiet!" they snapped, pushing past, pretending they weren’t there. But desperation doesn’t whisper—it roars. The beggars shouted louder, their voices straining, cracking, pleading.

Then everything stopped. The footsteps. The voices. The chaos. Jesus stood still. "Call them here," he said.

The same people who had silenced them now urged them forward. Bartimaeus threw off his cloak, his only possession, and stumbled toward the voice. The other beggar followed. And then, the question came. "What do you want me to do for you?" Tears burned Bartimaeus’ eyes. The question cut deep. What did he want? He wanted what he had longed for every single day in the dark? "Rabbi, I want to see." Jesus smiled. "Go, your faith has made you well."

In an instant, light flooded his world. Shapes, faces, colors—he could see. But instead of running home, Bartimaeus followed Jesus. Because when Jesus truly opens your eyes, you don’t just return to life as usual—you step into something new.

Jesus wasn’t asking for information. He was inviting faith. A faith that not only believes Jesus can heal but trusts him enough to ask, to surrender, to follow. Bartimaeus didn’t just receive sight—he received purpose. The first thing he saw was the face of his Savior, and the first step he took was in his direction.

And now, Jesus asks you: What do you want me to do for you? Not just what you think you need, but what your soul was made for. The question isn’t about what Jesus can do—he can do anything. The real question is: do you trust him enough to let him? Jesus has stopped for you. Your name is on his lips. Will you keep begging from the sidelines, or will you throw off everything that holds you back and step forward?

Apply

Name your need. Jesus asks, “What do you want me to do for you?” Take a moment to honestly answer. Write down one area where you need his help—whether healing, wisdom, direction, or strength. Be specific.

Pray

Lord, I come to you just like Bartimaeus, knowing that you see me, hear me, and care about my deepest needs. I lay down everything that holds me back and ask you to work in my life in a way that only you can. Help me to trust you fully, follow you boldly, and never stop calling out to you in faith. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
