Devotional 13: The Love of Money, Part 2
For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows. - 1 Timothy 6:10
The common misconception of this verse is that money is the root of all kinds of evil. But let's read the scripture again; it is not money that is the root of all kinds of evil, but the love of money. It is the craving of money, where money no longer serves us, but we serve it. When we love money, it will lead us. When money leads, it will take us to places we do not want to go – greed, discontent and debt.
Money in and of itself is neutral. It has the potential to be used for good or bad. One of the most effective ways to not love money is to leverage it for the kingdom of God. The 90 Day Challenge is an opportunity to develop the discipline of leveraging not loving money. When you bring the tithe to Fellowship Church, you provide for more people to know Christ, for more marriages to be unified and strengthened, and for more students and children to live for the Lord.
Tell God that you love Him not money. Thank Him for the opportunity to leverage the money He has entrusted to you for His Kingdom’s work.
Tonight when you eat your dinner meal, reflect on the today's verse, 1 Timothy 6:10, and if married, discuss it with your spouse.
