Day 18: Giving
Give, and it will be given to you. A good portion – packed down, firmly shaken, and overflowing – will fall into your lap. The portion you give will determine the portion you receive in return. - Luke 6:38
Could Jesus have made it any clearer? Give and it will be given to you. In God’s economy when you give, it is coming back to you. But take note – this reciprocal movement is initiated by the act of giving. Nothing happens until generosity is turned on. You have to give and then the truth of this verse becomes a reality. Give and it will be given to you!
God wants us to be openhanded, willing to give whenever the opportunity presents itself. Now don’t miss this. Giving or generosity is not just about money. Being generous is about every aspect of your life. It’s giving complements. It’s giving personal possessions. It’s giving time. Generosity knows no bounds. Give, give and give again.
Ask God to reveal any areas in your life that resist being generous. Then thank him for the “generous” gift of salvation found in Christ.
When you see those areas in your life that are resistant to generosity, counter the stinginess with an act of giving. For example, if you see that you rarely or never compliment people around you, deliberately go out of your way today to give away some very generous compliments.
