Day 20: Giving, Part 3
Give, and it will be given to you. A good portion – packed down, firmly shaken, and overflowing – will fall into your lap. The portion you give will determine the portion you receive in return. - Luke 6:38
We have seen that God wants us to be generous and to understand that when we do give, He will give back. Give and it will be given to you. But note how God will give back. He states that it will be a good portion. Unlike a box of cereal that is only half full when you first open it because of settled contents, in God’s economy the contents are not allowed to settle. When God pours back into your cereal box, He pushes it down, shakes it firmly so more can be poured in causing the box to overflow!
Now let’s drop some more truth into this thought. You get to determine how much you receive back. Jesus said, “The portion you give will determine the portion you receive in return.” Paul writing in 2nd Corinthians put it this way. “Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” You get to decide. Give a little, receive a little. Give generously, receive generously. This is not rocket science!
Often when it comes to generosity, we have a stingy button that gets pushed when we attempt to give and give generously. Ask God to show you your stingy button and its root causes. Repent of those causes and let God know that you are giver.
Today, find something of value in your household and give it away.
