Day 32: Live Within Your Means, Part 3
The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage, but everyone who is hasty comes surely to poverty. Proverbs 21:5
How can we live within our means? How do we overcome the urge to have more than our income can afford? Follow three steps: Look inside, look back, and look forward. Today, we “look forward” by understanding the term margin. Margin is the space in various areas of our lives - physical, emotional, time, financial - that can protect us from overload. When margin decreases, stress increases and burn-out is the end result.
We don't have margin because we overwork, overcommit, and overspend. We spend too many hours at the office, accumulate too much debt, spend too little time in exercise and rest, and fail to nurture important relationships. What we need are lifestyle changes which will help us cultivate margin in our bodies, our souls, our calendars, and our budgets. This calls for discipline and intentionality.
Ask God to show you where you overwork, overcommit, and overspend. Now ask God to give you some clear strategies as to how to create margin in those overcommitted areas of your life.
As the strategies for creating margin become clear, do it! Don’t continue to think about it. Just do it.
