Day 33: Cheerful Giver
Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. - 2 Corinthians 9:6-8
These verses from the letter to the Corinthians give us a rule, an attitude and an outcome in relationship to giving. The rule – you get to determine the return on your giving. The attitude – hilarious giving is what God loves. The outcome – God will take care of you abundantly in response to generous giving.
Today we look at the rule – you get to determine the return on your giving. This rule is not hard to grasp. Using the analogy of a farmer, plant little and receive little or plant much and receive much. To put it in practical terms be stingy with your giving and expect little in return. But be generous in your giving and expect a lavish return. This is not complicated!
Thank God for the truth of his word. Be honest with God about the state of your giving. If stingy, confess it and let Him know that this will change. If generous, thank him for the opportunities and ask Him to open your eyes to see the returns.
Create a list of ways that you can increase your opportunities to give generously. Remember that giving comes in many forms – money, words, deeds, time, and things, just to name a few.
