Ed Young voices his strong support for Truett Cathy’s stance on gay marriage, and applauds Billy Graham for his defense of Cathy and his reiteration of a higher truth.
Grapevine, TX, July 30, 2012—
The latest in the gay marriage movement is focused on Chick-Fil-A CEO Truett Cathy’s defense of traditional marriage and the mayor of Chicago’s attempted ban of the popular restaurant in his city. Upon hearing the news of this story, Pastor Ed Young of Fellowship Church applauded Cathy’s strong stance. The best-selling author of Sexperiment: 7 Days to Lasting Intimacy pointed to Mr. Cathy’s statement as something that needs to be heard in today’s relativistic world.
Ed Young said, “I’m glad to see such a public figure stand up to say, ‘This is what God says about marriage, and this is the truth I’m sticking to.’ Mr. Cathy isn’t concerned with what society says. He isn’t concerned about losing business because of his stance. And I applaud that. He stands for something higher…God’s truth. More people could learn from that example.”
Pastor Ed Young isn’t the only one to speak out in defense of Cathy’s stance. Renowned evangelist Billy Graham released a statement last week in which he said, "Each generation faces different issues and challenges, but our standard must always be measured by God's word.”
“Billy Graham is right,” said Ed Young. Recently, Ed Young preached about this very topic in a controversial and timely message on gay marriage. The message, delivered during a series titled “Cool Aid” drew the attention of local and national media.
Ed Young is known to take on the tough topics when preaching. And as the founding and senior pastor of one of the most attended churches in North America over the past years, he doesn’t plan on backing down.
“We’re here to help people see the truth – God’s truth. That isn’t always easy. People won’t always agree with it. But that doesn’t mean we back down from saying ‘This is truth.’ We have to love people enough to tell them the truth, because the truth, as Jesus said, sets us free.”
Ed Young is the founding pastor of Fellowship Church, one of the most attended churches in North America. He is an author and speaker noted for communicating biblical truth in creative and memorable ways. He has a passion for making the complex, simple as he speaks truth to people in ways they can understand and apply to their everyday lives. He has written 14 other books, including The New York Times best-seller Sexperiment.
